The Project
From “Broken Window Theory” to “Broken Windows”
Broken Windows is an independent DIY music and art project, founded in 2004. The three members are: Class (words, texts and poems, violin, tape machine), Kurt (guitars, recording, mastering, electric circuitry), Siggi (electrified experimental instruments, metal works, photographical material).
The first public performance took place in May 2004 at the University of Bielefeld under the name “Broken Window Theory.” In 2006, the group performed at a local public event in memory of the Chernobyl disaster May 26th and opened for the punk rock band “Akkordarbeiter” in June. In 2007, we had temporarily grown to a quartett and played at AJZ Bielefeld for the first time in March. On November 25th we invited our friends to a vernissage in Bielefeld. On May 24, 2008 we performed a multi media performance at the AJZ cinema hall. In August 2008 we played at the “umsonst und draussen” open air festival in Porta Westfalica. We celebrated our 5th anniversary in 2009 with the live performance of our first studio album “drehtür” at the ajz cinema hall recorded in Dec. 2008.

Broken Windows is / can be / should be…
- … our poor attempt to throw something of the daily shit back into the fan. Our powerlessness, our depressions, sounds, laws, poems, day dreams or a stone from the pavement.
- … our poor attempt to explore new styles of unconventional music, literature, stage appearance, sound, and noise.
- … our poor attempt of having fun with friends and spectators.
- …our poor attempt to use a free alternative therapy and become rich and famous.
- … a part of our individual political activism against the defective conditions of being.

Our work is inspired by different sources
Among others: Einstürzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, Hanns-Dieter Hüsch, Das Ich, Goethes Erben, Our Love Of Life, Modern Music, Richard Serra, Tori Amos, Klaus Kinski, Glenn Branca, The Velvet Underground, Neil Young, improvisation theatre, dry red wine, classical symphonies, punk and hardcore, YPS-Magazines, infantile moments, virtually everything with the prefix “Post-” …
